Yahtzee Back To School

Yahtzee with Buddies
Dice with Buddies

The "Back to School" showdown tower started and you only have to face seven dice masters and have to beat Professor Threesium to obtain the pencil custom dice! Can you beat the tower in the 21 days that it lasts? Come on and give it a try before you get caught up with all the homework.

Since this is such a short tower, there are only Silver (3 dice masters) and Gold levels (4 dice masters). Both Yahtzee with Buddies and Dice with Buddies have the same tower except that the colors are different. Again, the scoring is adaptive so if you're not the best yahtzee player, you still have a chance! Good luck and be prepared to show off your new custom dice.

Don't forget to beat Pastie!

Thank you, Lindsay!

Silver Level Dice Masters
Dunce, 8 Diamonds, 100XP, 30 Crowns, 240, 1BR
Four Eyes, 8 Diamonds, 150XP, 30 Crowns, 257, 3BR
School Bus, 8 Diamonds, 200XP, 30 Crowns, 283, 5BR

Gold Level Dice Masters
Eraser, 16 Diamonds, 250XP, 60 Crowns, 297, 7BR
Cheerleader, 24 Diamonds, 300XP, 90 Crowns, 309, 8BR
Threemo, 32 Diamonds, 350XP, 120 Crowns, 319, 9BR
Prof. Threesium, 40 Diamonds, 400XP, 150 Crowns, 319, 10BR

Defeated Prof. Threesium

You can put Prof. Threesium to shame but scoring a couple of yahtzees.  He will try to sneak a yahtzee in the top section so be sure to go for the knock out.

He will score the exact score that he says he will so there is no need to worry that he'll get that sudden yahtzee to blow you away.  If you're not even close...try the triple replay or second chance.

Tower Complete

Completion bonus is active for this tower meaning that you can earn some extra diamonds, XP and crowns for defeating the tower quickly - in the first five days.

The reward will get smaller as time goes by until the last day.

Roll Like An Egyptian

Yahtzee with Buddies
Dice with Buddies

Roll Like an Egyptian

You have 59 days to compete in the Roll Like an Egyptian Tower in both Yahtzee with Buddies and Dice with Buddies. This tower is a "score contoured." I made that phrase up to reflect what the system does when you play the towers.  If you do really well - have a high average then the score you'll need to beat the dice master will be higher.  Conversely, if you don't do well then the average of the dice master will go down so that you have a chance to progress through the showdown tower.

This tower also has 15 dice masters.  Below is what you'll need to beat the whole tower.  Remember that Scopely has also implemented the streak bonus and how many days that it takes you to beat the tower.  So it's another incentive to beat the tower quickly.  Both Yahtzee with Buddies and Dice with Buddies have the tower.

The length of this tower is twice as long as most of the others.

MIG Shot Down By Yahtzee Player

MIG Showdown

The MIG showdown is just like the Cheshire Cat showdown.  If you shoot down the MIG you get a custom MIG Vanity Frame.  If you beat or shoot down the MIG 6 times, you get the platinum dice! Since the challenge is only one dice master, the score is pretty high.  You'll have to get AT LEAST 320 points and as high as 380.  I have noticed that the average changes within this range.

After you beat the MIG six times, it starts all over.  You'll earn 3 diamonds and 250 XP, each time that you beat the MIG.

Remember that the MIG will only show for a very limited time and if you don't finish the entire 13 moves within that time limit, you'll get an error.  Basically, you ran out of time and Yahtzee with Buddies can't find your game anymore.

How do you beat the MIG?  This one was only 320 points but I have seen it as high as 380.

Award for Winning:

Custom Vanity Frame:

Defeat the MIG the first time and get the frame.  The next 5 times gets you the silver stars that surround the frame.

Cheshire Cat Comes Out of Hiding

The Cheshire Cat has Come Out of Hiding

Cheshire Cat Challenge
Yahtzee with Buddies has made the Cheshire Cat come out and play against you for the next 48 hours.  The cat has been worn down and now it only takes 360 points to beat him.  Remember that it used to be 395 originally and then lowered to 380 and now finally to 360.

Many of you wrote in and shared your displeasure with how difficult to beat the Cheshire since he scored three yahtzees each time you played him.

You can play the Cheshire Cat over and over again if you have enough rolls to do it.  For others it may be the final opportunity to get the custom dice.

Have you beaten him?

Cheshire Cat

Cheshire Cat in Yahtzee with Buddies Defeated!

You've seen the little sneak pop-ups - "Watch for the Cheshire Cat for rare prizes!" You have to beat the Cheshire Cat in 15 minutes or lose the game. (4/13/2016) I noticed that the time has been bumped up to 60 minutes. He has a 395 average (4/17/2016 - Lowered to 380) and will get three yahtzees in the game.  If you manage to win, you get 10 diamonds, a custom set of Cheshire dice, and 3,000 XP.

The second time that you beat him in a row, you get 5,000 XP plus the 10 diamonds again. You can play Cheshire Cat again by "paying" 25 bonus rolls before the time runs out or it expires.  Don't worry if you get expired, the promotion lasts for another 22 days.

You don't get a custom frame or other custom dice.  The message simply repeats for defeating the Cheshire Cat repeatedly.

As always, you get the "YOU WON" pop-up when you defeat the last dice master, in this case the Cheshire Cat.

"You are in the Top 1% of the players!"

If you tap on the continue, you are given the opportunity to keep playing the Cheshire Cat but you have to pay the skip price of 25 bonus rolls for the opportunity.

I have heard from others that Cheshire only appears for about an hour a day.  Catch him while you can.

How to beat the Cheshire Cat is the question when he averages a whopping 395!  Hope you have a few extra bonus rolls lying around.  Remember, the dice have what you need to beat him.  You heard that right!  Sometimes they aren't the dice that are obvious.

A lot of people write in and say they don't know what to look for and if the Cheshire Cat is even available or exists. I did a screenshot so that all can see what the secretive Cheshire icon looks like.

Make sure you hurry up because he isn't going to be around for much longer.

Just in 4/27/2016: Cheshire Cat No Longer Hiding

I've included a sample of the Cheshire Custom Dice that you win if you beat him.  I find the dice a little hard to read while playing so I don't think that I will be using these very much.

How to Get Diamonds in Yahtzee with Buddies

Yahtzee with Buddies introduced Diamonds earlier without really giving a way to earn them and didn't explain the most asked question sent in to me: "What are diamonds used for in Yahtzee with Buddies?" and the response is, "Diamonds are used as a form of game currency."  That's a good answer but what do I do with them?  Scopely slowly started incorporating what to do with diamonds - Buy Custom Dice with Diamonds, or skip wait time in the dice master showdowns.

How do you earn diamonds in Yahtzee with Buddies? Of course you probably want to know how to get them without buying them too!

The examples explain how to get them but don't guarantee that you will get them.  Almost all require that you win the game, either against the computer or person (PvP)

Method One: Buy Diamonds
Qty: 1,125, Cost: $99.99  8.88 cents per diamond
Qty: 510, Cost $49.99 9,80 cents per diamond
Qty: 190, Cost $19.99 10.52 cents per diamond
Qty: 85, Cost $9.99 11.75 cents per diamond
Qty: 40, Cost $4.99 12.48 cents per diamond

Method Two: Earn Diamonds Playing
1) Every day there is a daily challenge to earn both bonus rolls and diamonds.  Today's challenge was to complete 3 gold fast play tournaments (cost 45 bonus rolls) and earn 45 diamonds.  In essence a one-to-one trade.  Sure, I'll be glad to do a one for one.

2) Play the Dice Duels.  The dice duels cost an entry fee in diamonds (1, 2, 5, 10, 25) which represents the different tiers of play (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Emerald, Master).  If you win the match, you'll get either (2, 4, 10, 20 or 50 diamonds).  After you reach 100 wins in duels, 50 diamonds are awarded for each win.  Don't forget that you get one free entry per day (day starts at midnight)

3) Enter the premium tournaments if you have enough bonus rolls.  However, unless you know how to get 880 in a tournament, you should look for winning the honorable mention prize.

4) Be on the look out for the special promo that shows how to get diamonds.  Today, it was enter and win a diamond fast play tournament and win 30 diamonds.  Entry fee was only 3 bonus rolls.  The entry fee is slightly more than entering the 2 bonus roll bronze fast play.

I am hoping that Scopely will create a scratcher for diamonds to match the bonus rolls.  As new ways become available, I'll post about it.

Dice Duels Season 4 in Yahtzee with Buddies

Scopely introduced a new season of Dice Duels; I'd prefer to call it a new round instead of season but they made a nice change that addressed one of the biggest complaints: players taking too long. More detail about dice duels can be found on this blog..

The time limit went from 12 hours down to 3 minutes.  This means that your game will be over in about most about 39 minutes (13 x 3 min).  I have noticed that the game will end a lot sooner if you score a yahtzee near the beginning of the game.  People aren't forfeiting by tapping on the "white flag," but simply letting the time run out!

Another change is the doubling of the diamond rewards (2 for 1).  Entry fee starts at one diamond get two for winning, then as you advance in level (bronze, silver, gold, emerald) the fee goes to 2 diamonds, then 5 diamonds at the gold level, 10 diamonds entry at Emerald (win 20) and finally 25 entry for master level (win 50 diamonds).  So, you get diamonds and bonus rolls plus XP as you advance with a shorter time fuse.

The new season lasts until March 21st, 2016.  You have to reach Emerald and win three games in a row to get the dice duel crown. The goal is to get 100 wins.

Do you like the new format?

How to Score 880 in Yahtzee with Buddies Part 2

How to Score 880 in Yahtzee with Buddies

Perfect 880 Score
9/1/2016. Caution: You may be sent to the cheater's board. You've been warned.

Getting a score of 880 in a Premium or Daily Tournament takes time. About one or two hours and multiple devices are required to accomplish the 880 score.  This is part II in the post on how to get 880 (a perfect score or 13 yahtzees).  You can read part I here. Thank you for being so patient to those who wrote in to the blog and emailed me.

Some resort to more devices so they don't have to stop and clear the cache (android phones) or reload the app (iPhones).  Someone wrote in and said they had 12 devices!

How do you get 13 yahtzees and not just any 13 yahtzees in a row?  In order to be successful at getting this score, you'll need to score the first yahtzee worth 50 points and it can be any of the yahtzees.  It doesn't matter you get 50 points.  The outline for how to get the next yahtzees are outlined below.

1) 50 points any yahtzee to start off with

2) Go for the upper section dice 1 through 6.  Try to get a yahtzee of each of those.  You must get a yahtzee of each of them.  Doesn't matter in what order, just all of them.  Getting the yahtzees with the correct dice will yield 440 points.

3) You MUST get 3 additional yahtzees of 6s.  One for the three of a kind, One for the four of a kind, and one for Chance.  This alone is 180 points.
Multiple Devices for Getting 880

4) The next three yahtzees can be of anything.  You just need to get three yahtzees and score them in the Full House, Small Straight and Large Straight.  Try to get them in that order.  The reason is that if you can't get a yahtzee the ability to get 25, 30, 40 points will still be possible. The bottom section will also give you 440 points.  Combined with the upper section: 880 points!

5) If you have yahtzee with buddies on Facebook, you can use one turn as a life-saver.

6) Use your triple replay as a last resort meaning that you've used up all the devices and didn't get the yahtzee you needed.

For the devices: They must be different devices.  If you have some that are the same, they will all generate the same rolls! Example: If you have two iPhone 5s' then it won't work. (Thanks to the lady that allowed me to use her devices as an illustration) The method illustrated above also works on Dice with Buddies.

It costs 30, 40, or 100 bonus rolls to play the premium tournaments but the daily tournament is free.  The prizes for the premium tournament can go from 1,000 bonus rolls to 2,000 bonus rolls.  Most of the time the average is 1,000 or 1,800 bonus rolls.

Is this cheating?  The only way to get the platinum dice is to win a premium tournament three times.  This means getting 880.  I have not seen a day that the winner hasn't gotten the perfect score.  It would be nice if the people using these techniques would stick to the premium so that those with not very  many bonus rolls could stick to the daily free tournament.  Better yet, have Scopely fix it (several techinques are available to prevent) so that it is fair for everyone.
