I saw Dice with Ellen and loaded it up.  The first thing I noticed was that the email option for playing was missing and I had to use Facebook to join.  I don't like any game that makes you use a social media account to play it.

The game is pretty much the same except with a whole lot of sounds, and graphics.  Ellen Degeneres appears a lot through the game and the sounds remind me of an arcade game so, I turned all the noises off very quickly.

I like that the whole playing sheet is on one page and don't have to scroll to get to the lower section but the Android versions already have that on Yahtzee and Dice with Buddies.

There is a "Do-Over" button with the submit button available right next to the square that you are playing.

Of course, since this is a co-branded game, there are specific items available only in the Dice with Ellen game.


Average Andy Challenge, Ellen's Squad, Ellen's Lucky Dice are among the unique things available to this version of the game.  The tournaments and events are available in this version. All the players on Yahtzee with Buddies, Dice with Buddies and Ellen can play each other if you start a game using their username.

One of my blog readers has compiled a very extensive list of all known custom dice that have been seen on Yahtzee or Dice with Buddies.

As you can see, there are at least 382 with some unreleased custom dice forthcoming.  The Scopely designers are hard at work creating more.  There is something for guys and gals.

I posted a screenshot of a 50 bonus roll scratcher win and I have received a 100 bonus roll win screenshot from a reader of this blog.  I finally received the 200 bonus roll screen shot!

I've gotten another 25 and 50 bonus roll wins but the 100 & 200 bonus roll wins elude me.

One thing I noticed is that someone has 3551 scratchers!  How many do you have?  I only have 2185.  I rarely scratch them.

Weekly Challenge: The weekly challenge was finally released in the update to the iPhone applications (Dice with Buddies, Dice with Buddies FREE and Yahtzee).  The Android versions of these three apps had been released months ago.  All the versions across all platforms will eventually be in the same, or the "unity" version.

Goal: The main goals is to reach a point total to unlock a custom set of dice.  A huge complaint of many is that only the cheaters/exploiters could get the custom dice by playing in the tournaments or defeating a tower.  This allows you to get a custom set of dice once per week!

The goal this week is 5600 on Dice with Buddies, Dice with Buddies FREE is 11,560 and Yahtzee it is 6700.  The goal has been as low as 3800 on Dice with Buddies.  I was wondering if they had a formula to detect how many players you have on your list and adjust according to that.  My guess is they average how many people they want to get the dice. The top number for the point goal has been 10,000.  It's cool to see your friends up there and see if you can come out on top.  The most I have seen is someone that finished with 124,000 for the week!

Prizes:  Along the way to getting the custom dice, you can unlock secret gifts.  These gifts can include XP, Diamonds, and even a random dice if you're lucky.  But what happens if you get a custom set of dice that you already have?  You can gift them to a Facebook buddy. Or, you can click on the "select random" and you will start a "gifting game."  The background is blue on your player list.

History: At first the Dice with Buddies version allowed only three of the people that you currently have on your player list to be on the tower or road that you are playing on for the weekly challenge.

The number of players I have seen is now up to 13.  What have you seen?  I think it depends on server load but I would be happy with the top ten.

Differences: I have played the weekly challenge on all six apps and notice that Dice with Buddies and Dice with Buddies Free points will count for each other but that the goal will be different.  Yahtzee with Buddies will not see the points played on DWB or DWBF and vice versa.

Happy Birthday Post

Hello everyone!  Happy rolling :)  On the 11th of this month, yahtzee-with-buddies.blogspot.com turned one!  At this time last year, a friend of mine from words with friends invited me to play yahtzee with them.  They told me that they were addicted to this game (are you?). How can you turn down a friend?  I downloaded yahtzee with buddies on my iPhone but quickly got annoyed by the ads after each move so I forked over the $2.99 for the ad-free version and got some bonus rolls to boot.

I soon discovered bonus rolls, scratchers and towers.  I had a lot of questions about the game but couldn't find anything on the web that answered my questions.  So...I decided to write a blog and share what I had learned since I figured others might have the same questions.  Along the way, I met people with a lot experience that helped out and provided tips for playing.  I also learned about yahtzee with buddies sister app - Dice with Buddies. They are basically the same - 99%, except yahtzee with buddies is a Hasbro branded game and has their blessing.

The custom dice soon became the main focus and how to get them and that's why I show all the towers and which dice masters you'll face.  Lately, some of my followers have helped by sending screenshots of dice I don't have - THANK YOU! 

During this past year, this site has grown from about 10-25 unique visitors to about 700-1000 unique visitors per day.  Most of the visitors are looking to see what a particular dice is or how people are getting such high scores - 880 points.

Panda & Friends Tower

The Panda & Friends Tower showed up today and of course, one of our readers has conquered the tower in what I call ZERO DAY!  This is another three tier (Bronze, Silver and Gold) with five dice masters in each tier.  You will win the Panda custom dice if you beat all 15 dice masters.

The neon green numbers are a little difficult to read for me and the selection ring is okay around the dice.  Not too bad.

Streak Reward

If you beat the tower in the first FIVE days, then you'll earn a nice streak reward.  You also win a streak for beating it in 10 days and then finally in the last days of the tower challenge but the amount of items go down significantly.















Gold Tier Complete

You receive bonuses for completing the Bronze, Silver and of course the Gold Tier.  If you see this on your screen, then those Panda dice are yours!

I posted a screenshot of a 50 bonus roll scratcher win and I received a 100 bonus roll win screenshot from a reader of this blog.  The only one I need now is the 200 bonus roll win.  If you have received it or someone else has, please send them in.

These (25, 50, 100 and 200) bonus roll wins are very rare so it's good when people send them in.

I have personally won 25 bonus rolls and of course win the 1,2,3,4 and 5 bonus rolls after I scratch off cards.  I have gotten close (2 of 3) for the 100 but that's it.

Do  you want to win the cool Tombstone dice? Yes, of course you do!  This is how you do it:  You have to beat 15 scary dice masters on your way to earning them.  This is a standard Bronze, Silver and Gold tower with five dice masters in each.

At the end you'll face Sweet Bones and he's not just going to lay down and get in the grave (he's dead already!).  You'll need to be ready because the bar was set at 351 points to win.

The tombstone dice are easy to read since they light up yellow when they are selected and make for good choice when going through a lot of games in PvP.

If someone asks you, "How do I get those cool tombstone dice?" you'll know what to tell them!

Halloween Dice Duels

It's that time again!  Are you ready to carve the pumpkin?  As you may be aware, Scopely has their annual pumpkin dice.  Last year, they had these dice and these custom pumpkin dice. This year, you can win the 2016 pumpkin dice by winning 20 games in the dice duels.  They aren't available by playing a premium or fast play tournament.

As is the case for the dice duels, you get one free dice duel per 24 hour period. After that you have to pay the entry fee to skip the wait in bonus rolls.

Some people stop here in the duels - getting to gold level and winning the dice.  You can do an unofficial goal, and that is to win the dice the first day that they are available.  This is usually in 24 hours.

Another goal in dice duels is to get to 103 wins, so that you can get the dice duel crown or an additional jewel in the crown.


Of course, we have the dice the first day (zero-day) winning of the dice!

People are always saying that nobody wins anything more than a few bonus rolls off the scratchers and the 200 bonus roll win is like trying to find the lochness monster or even big foot.  But a loyal follower (yesterday was her lucky day) of this blog has submitted something as proof that you can earn something more than 1, 2 or even 5 bonus rolls on a scratcher!

I have personally won 25 bonus rolls and of course win the 1,2,3,4 and 5 bonus rolls after I scratch off cards.  I have gotten close (2 of 3) for the 100 but that's it.

The Back to School tower has a second part - Defeat Pastie.  I have no idea why they came up with that names because it makes me think of something else!  But anyway, Pastie is a random appearing dice master that appears for about an hour throughout the day.  Keep checking and you'll see him in the Events and Rewards area.  Look for the special events.

Pastie has an adaptive score to beat.  It means that it is not the same for everyone.  The score can range from the high 200's to about 350. When you beat Pastie the first time you get the school bus crown with five slots for little apples to be filled in.  

You have to beat Pastie five more times to get that crown filled in





The message that you'll see if you beat Pastie after the first time:

Notice the little plus in the center of the crown.  This means that you've just added another apple to the crown.  If you beat Pastie more than six times then you won't get anything other than the XP, Diamonds, and crowns.

Congrats for beating him as he is not easy to beat!

The Different Types of Yahtzee Players

Once you start playing either ywb or dwb, you'll see a pattern develop.  There are several different aspects to the game to draw players into particular categories.

There are the usual custom dice collectors and they do whatever it takes to get those shiny new custom dice.  Right now, the light up lightning dice are the rage - pretty cool, huh?  So, below are the types that I have identified and you can chime in if I missed something.

Let me know which you fall into...





Chatty Patties - These play PvP (player versus player) and greet you everyday.  They earned the social butterfly dice and easily obtained the XP for being a socialite.  You miss them if they don't show up.

Dice Duel Masters - The goal is that one crown that can only be obtained by playing 60 straight days and ending the season with the highest number of wins - only one winner!  They usually don't play PvP or anything else.  They usually don't get along with Chatty Patties since it slows down the playing.  They could play several dice duels at once, probably up to four.

PvP Family - They only play people on their facebook or just family.  They decline games with others and won't chat with you either.  They aren't as addicted but go in spurts later in the day.

Daily & Premium - The goal here is to earn bonus rolls to get other assets maybe the entry fee for dice duels for trading for diamonds or to complete the showdown towers in one day (eliminate wait time).  These players come out in droves for the custom dice.  You don't stand a chance by the way of winning, so hope for winner's circle or honorable mention.  If you do win one then you cheated.  Own up to it!

Whiners - They play and whine about the ads, the bonus rolls, the towers being rigged, the cheaters, not winning enough, the towers being too difficult to beat, the cost of buying custom dice.  Stop already.

Action Jackson - These players are here to play, and I'm not talking about yahtzee or dice.  They want some type of action.  That is the beauty of the block button.  This is not yahtzee dating, although there have been successful relationships and at least one marriage that I know of!

Quiet Violet - Mostly women fall into this label.  They have been hit on so many times, they just don't answer to any message - even the simple "Hi."  These players just want to play and are not into the chatting - just get the XP and churn out games or achievements.

Fast Play - They like the idea of the tournament but that takes too long.  They don't want to compete with the 1,000 or so other plays.  They feel they have a better chance of winning something when there is only 2-150 plays.  Risk versus reward.

Towers Only - XP is harder to earn but playing the towers does get more very quickly along with dice duels over the 100 win mark.

Just Play - They don't care about the custom dice and probably have the starter dice.  They don't move right away and take a long time to actually finish a game.  Sometimes they will play fast but it doesn't matter if they they lose.  They are very similar to PvP family and have given up on doing the towers since they can't win anyway.

The "Back to School" showdown tower started and you only have to face seven dice masters and have to beat Professor Threesium to obtain the pencil custom dice! Can you beat the tower in the 21 days that it lasts? Come on and give it a try before you get caught up with all the homework. 

Since this is such a short tower, there are only Silver (3 dice masters) and Gold levels (4 dice masters). Both Yahtzee with Buddies and Dice with Buddies have the same tower except that the colors are different. Again, the scoring is adaptive so if you're not the best yahtzee player, you still have a chance! Good luck and be prepared to show off your new custom dice.

You can put Prof. Threesium to shame but scoring a couple of yahtzees.  He will try to sneak a yahtzee in the top section so be sure to go for the knock out.

He will score the exact score that he says he will so there is no need to worry that he'll get that sudden yahtzee to blow you away.  If you're not even close...try the triple replay or second chance.












Tower Complete


Completion bonus is active for this tower meaning that you can earn some extra diamonds, XP and crowns for defeating the tower quickly - in the first five days.

The reward will get smaller as time goes by until the last day.

I stopped posting these but I got a request from Jay to show Oneubis and the dice you get so here it is!  The score to beat was a lot higher too - 379.  You get 15 Diamonds, 400 XP and 90 Crowns, but the best part is you get some cool dice :)

I get a lot of people writing in and asking, "How do I beat Onebis?" I still think Anubis when this is brought up but I answer that you will need TWO yahtzees.  The original yahtzee and then a 4, 5, or 6 yahtzee to seal the deal.

Oneubis will get his exact score so if you're down by 20 points and he has only the chance box to go, he WILL get whatever it takes to hit his magic score.

This challenge is related to the "Roll Like an Egytian Tower."

Labor Day Camp Out Tower

The Yahtzee with Buddies and Dice with Buddies Labor Day Camp Out Showdown Tower only lasts for 15 days.  You'll need to hurry up and complete this short tower.  There are only seven dice masters to defeat (Silver 3, Gold 4).  Remember that the score is adjusted to your level so you should have a chance to beat this tower.  If you do, you get the INNER TUBE Custom Dice.

Can you beat this tower in one day?  It will cost 47 bonus rolls to skip the waiting to accomplish this.

Remember that streak bonus is applied to this tower so try to complete it quickly if you can :)
